    What is considered Poly

To me "Poly" is "more than one". Simple. I also think it's best thought of as the Trapezoid/Rectangle/Square situation: All Polys are "Poly", but some might not be the same as others... and there's nothing wrong with that, because "not the same" does NOT equal "less than".

    Link to laws?

I agree with that. I was just pointing out the irony. That their book doesn't say what they think it does.

    Link to laws?

Interestingly enough, the anti-"gay rights" people that were arguing on religious grounds were inadvertently fighting FOR polygamous marriage (or at least polygynous marriage... one husband, many wives) with their whole "We need to return to Traditional Marriage... as it's laid out in The...

    Arguments against

I disagree. Just like Federal Same Sex marriage laws (courtesy of the SCOTUS ruling against D.O.M.A.) don't trump State Laws against it. Federal Poly Laws could be for "Federal Recognition only" as a beginning... and then states could then have a "roadmap" to follow.

I agree with that conclusion, but would also add that mono isn't for everyone either. And because of this (and what an unsatisfying family dynamic can do to the family unit), kids' needs must be closely monitored.

    Arguments against

I don't disagree with any of that. However since legalizing poly would be "new", (poly is "new" because unlike with gay marriage there isn't "still just two people involved" {also one of the reasons I never understood the issue with gay marriage... it IS still just two people}) ALL states could...

    Arguments against

That's the thing though... it doesn't HAVE to be complicated, as I pointed out. Make the law "if you (singly) leave a poly union, all Family assets (home, furnishings, 'family' bank account, property) remain with the family, individuals keep individual items (if all the adults have a car - the...

    Arguments against

I am 100% in favor of that... especially considering there are actually MORE religious grounds for poly marriage (see my previous post) than there are for gay marriage (which I also support!). I think people ought to be able to marry and intertwine (legally) their lives with whomever they wish...

    Arguments against

Whenever someone wants to give me the "That's not Christian!", If I don't feel like getting into the "that's o.k. I'm not a Christian..." argument, I will usually suggest that they actually READ their Bible and not just use it for a conversation piece... Multiple wives and concubines... Oh my!

    Discrimination

I find it funny (in a WTF???" way, not a "hahahahahaha" way) that it's even a worry that being poly could trigger a "morals clause violation" How the hell is love (amongst consenting adults) immoral? I never understood that.

    Arguments against

Even though I don't consider poly to be cheating (and I would defend/argue that "consensual non-monogamy" is not "cheating" anyway)... that's the only one that I can personally see that couldn't ALSO exist in monogamous relationships. I looked at kdt's long as crap list... and found an argument...

    Cuckquean

Are cuckqueans made or born? Good question. My answer would probably be "Any possibility from 'either' to 'both'... just like any other kink/fetish." It could be genetic, but it doesn't HAVE to be. It could be something that happened in their formative years, but it doesn't HAVE to be that...

    Polyamory = Dwarf Dating?

LOL... for me, when it comes to preference (gender, "kink" {if there is any}, and number of possible partners) I wish it was a plain as telling "male" from "female"... You know, it would be nice if people could tell from 20 feet away "that person is bi and poly", "this other person is gay and...

    What about the Kids?

Questions can come up about the family dynamic that has nothing to do with who's genitals are coming into contact with whom's. When a spouse comes in from work, quite often there will be a "welcome home" kiss... in poly families that can happen too. This can also happen at departure times...

    Ethical Inquiry: Is Consent Enough?

Copied them so I wouldn't have to look back for the questions... ;) 1> Consent is the granting of permission, but there are two kinds of grant: the willing and happy grant ("I want you to do it because I want you to!), and the reluctant and sad grant (I don't really have a choice, so I may as...

Called the county attorney on us really?

BS crap like this is why polygamy, and all the steps that CAN (whether they do or not) lead to it, should be legalized. Polyamory/polygamy doesn't "hurt/damage" the children any more than monogamy (just dating or married) does.
  18. RichardInTN

    What about the Kids?

Absolutely they should. Everything should be taught (this doesn't just apply to the mono/poly question) and then the kids should be allowed to find their own path.

    What about the Kids?

to me it's the same as any "forced belief". In most cases, belief, and how it's taught to the podlings, is a "closed loop association", in a limited few it's an "open exploration". In the mono/poly options of belief: Monogamous is almost always "closed loop association". The monogamous parents...

    What about the Kids?

In my humble opinion, I think more damage is done to kids raised in monogamous homes, where a strict "monogamy is the only 'good' way!" party line is forced upon them. Most poly situations I have ever heard of or come across put out a "CAN love many" vibe, not a "MUST love many" one.
