Online dating: how to make sure they're okay with poly

These are all such good questions. I think it's great that you're putting so much thought into your profile. Red flags that make me swipe left: - Treating other people like objects - Bragging, especially about one's, er, bedroom skills - Negative assumptions or insults about the people...

    Hi from the west coast!

Welcome! I'm queer and poly, too. I hope you find a lot of good advice about long distance dating here. This pandemic has put me on a long break from pursuing any new partners.

    Would herbals help?

I'm sorry you're struggling so much. I was a nervous wreck when my spouse had his first few other partners, too. I third the recommendation for seeking out a poly-friendly counsellor. There's definitely something to be said for developing a toolbox of techniques to get through tough days. My...

It shouldn't be this difficult, should it??

I couldn't agree with FallenAngelina more. What you decide to do is 100% your decision, of course, but I run towards relationships that are peaceful and away from ones that involve conflict after conflict. I don't personally have the time or energy to push a relationship (of any sort -...

    Hi, I'm Subtle...

Welcome, Subtle! I agree with Kevin that it takes longer to find a polyamorous partner than a monogamous one. Patience is key. I've also found that there are many different styles of polyamory and dating in general: parallel, kitchen table, solo poly, polyfidelity, relationship anarchy, and...

What online games are you into?

I play Minecraft. I like it because it's so open-ended. You can use it to build things, explore, go into battle, and so much more.

    New and struggling

Welcome to the boards, saturnascends. I'm glad you joined us. Yes, getting ghosted hurts. I've been there, too, and it seems to be an unavoidable part of dating. I deal with it by taking breaks from dating whenever I need one. Sometimes they're long ones, and sometimes they're short ones. It...

    One year anniversary ideas

I like kdt's ideas. Here are a few more. What does your boyfriend like to do in his free time? If you have the money for it, you could surprise him with tickets to his favourite thing. Maybe it could be a sporting event, couple's massage session, art museum, chocolate factory tour, comedy...

    Vij Intro

Hello Vij and welcome. I have some experience with the intersection of polyamory and mental health as well. I hope you enjoy your stay here. Like Kevin T. said, there is a ton of wisdom in the Golden Nuggets section. Definitely go do some reading there when you have the time. The Master...

    How to handle the jealousy

Would you ever be open to the idea of meeting J, Marcus? I know it seems scary, but I've found that even going out for a quick cup of coffee or something with a metamour (that is, the person who is dating your girlfriend/partner/etc) can be a great way to cope with jealousy if your jealousy is...

    Glad to be here

Welcome, Marcus! Kevin T. is right. There are a lot of wonderful resources on these boards to help you learn to deal with jealousy. I struggled with it a lot, too, when my spouse first started dating someone else.

Have experience in poly rels - need some exp in discussing it openly

Welcome, Nowhereman! I think your English is very good, and it's wonderful that you'll be practicing it here. It takes a lot of hard work to learn another language.

    Open vs Poly

I agree with SEASONEDpolyAgain and GalaGirl. You and this guy don't seem like you're on the same page at all at the moment. I know it's hard, but I do think it may be best for you both to find partners whose goals and approaches to non-monogamy are better aligned with each other. Could you...

    Greetings new friends...

Welcome! I'm somewhat new myself, and I've found these boards to be very educational (and friendly). Like Kevin said, the Golden Nuggets are a fabulous place to start. I've also been learning a lot simply by doing searches for various keywords and reading through the threads that discussed...

    Poly; an aspect to sexuality

I agree with you, SEASONEDpolyAgain. Any form of discrimination is wrong, of course, but I also see a big difference between how visibly* LGBT+ people are treated and how straight/cisgendered polyam people are treated. *for lack of a better term.
