Looking for alternative to monthly hotels

My girlfriend and I are both married with kids. In order to get some privacy, we have been getting a monthly hotel room. Our relationship is going on two years now, and the cost is starting to add up. We've been taking turns paying, or splitting the cost, but we're looking for other options. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Take turns hosting when the kids are out of the house if that's the issue...
Use a guest bedroom...
Wait till the kids are asleep to host

If I am reading it right you guys are getting a hotel room once a month. It will be hard to find something cheaper than that. I am assuming the privacy issue extends to not just the kids but your spouses. This is something I try to avoid.

I understand about not having sex partners in the home. Even if the liaison is cool with the spouses, mixing extra marital sex with kids is a no go for a lot of people, me included. I couldn't even begin to have that kind of sex in my family home, no matter if the kids are around or not.

Don't look at it as "the cost is starting to add up," but as part of your ongoing budget. Some couples spend money on dining out once a week, you spend money on a hotel/motel room. I actually just came from a motel romp and played bartender in our room, saving us the bar bill of drinks out - which probably equalled the cost of the room.

As someone who does a weekly hotel date with my BF, I hear you about the costs!

If you stay at the same hotel chain frequently, you can get join the loyalty program and earn free rooms every so often. Or get a credit card that earns points toward hotel stays and use it for groceries, gas, etc... Those points add up :)

My BF is always suggesting we get an apartment to use instead of going to hotels. Where we are, even the cheapest decent studios are more expensive than four hotel room nights a month  but it is something you could look into if you're in an area with cheap sublets and such.

I've heard tell that there is such a thing as a motel that is decent and yet will rent by the hour?

There are lots of them. Most "decent" motels won't advertise this and it won't be on their website, but many perfectly normal motels do have day rates with two or three hour minimums.

thought about a tent and a campground. maybe a used Winnebago:).
