How to bring up that I want to be poly?

I've been with my boyfriend for 2 years and a bit now. We've had some issues in the past where he felt inexperienced and like he wanted to have sex with other people, and feel attractive in their eyes. He even hid a girl he was talking to from me because "he wanted a friend." Since then, over time, I have felt the need to be with other people and explore my sexuality, both with women and other men who make sex more fun. But back then, my bf wanted to be the only one to have sex with others. So I don't know how to bring it up in a safe way for both of us to experience things. What do you think?

I think both of you having the freedom to date polyamorously is only fair, it should be easy enough to point that out to him. Perhaps you could say something like, "Honey, I have been thinking about polyamory for both of us, and I would like to try it. Can we talk about that?"
