Hi ZacC - and welcome to the Forum. We do have a good number of experienced poly folks here, so please do not hesitate to post any specific thoughts or questions that you might have. The general poly discussion section and the poly relationships corner are both quite active.
While poly folks often have sex with multiple partners as a matter of course in their relationships, poly may not be as wild as you have heard. Most poly folks do not participate in group sex, at least on a regular basis, if ever.
Polyamory it's primarily about multiple loving relationships with the knowledge and consent of all involved. I would recommend taking a look at morethantwo.com for a good introduction and overview of poly.
