Insurance benefits for poly fams

I am the hinge in a "V" and I am married legally to one half. Our new partner has better health insurance than my spouse and he wants to add me to his policy. Does anyone know if you are already married, can a domestic partner add you to his policy?

Perhaps it depends on Washington's state laws? Sorry, this isn't an area of expertise for me. :(

Sorry, I got nothin'. All I can suggest is to consult a lawyer.

I'm going to predict that no one is going to have a good answer for this but here is why I wouldn't do it.

The plan can allow you to cover domestic partners that is a question for his plan administrator BUT technically you're supposed to be a registered domestic partnership that is filed with the state and that probably isn't legal if you're married. The insurance company is unlikely to ask you for proof of the partnership during open enrollment but the problem comes in when you have big claims and suddenly the insurance company starts digging around for a reason not to pay them. Also lets say something happens with your relationship and he decides he doesn't want to cover you anymore. Now you won't be able to get coverage anywhere until the next open enrollment period because you don't have proof of an involuntary loss of coverage because you don't have proof your domestic partnership disolved.

Yeah I checked on the domestic partnership in Washington and neither partner can be married to another person.

Not a good idea unless you would like to be prosecuted for insurance fraud or perhaps bigamy.

Hell most insurance plans are kicking spouses off their insurance plans if their employer offers insurance. For example if I worked for X company that offers insurance but it is god awful expensive Butch's insurance would kick me off of his insurance even though his insurance is better and more affordable for our family. I had to get a certified letter from my employer saying that she doesn't offer health insurance to keep my health insurance.

Last round of cuts we had to prove that we were married by providing a marriage certificate to keep MrS on my plan. (And the wording specified that only opposite sex marriages qualified! - this was before SSM ruling by Supreme Court.)
