I'm stuck in the middle-- but I'm okay with that!

I have always thought of myself as open minded. I have been very sexually open for about 4 years, I guess kind of like a "proud slut". I just don't think I fit into any real category or definition. Sometimes it seems like who you ask depends on the answer. I don't fit into the swinger category because I want to be more attached to a couple. But, I think I am "open" or non-monogamous because I like the freedom to have sex with others as long as a potential relationship knows about it.

Here is an example. I was in a relationship with a couple for about 7 months. We got together for sexy fun about 3 times a week with just us 3. After a couple of months we agreed we could have sex with others as long as we knew. To be honest, sometimes they really liked hearing about what I had done. It was kind of the same for me. I thought it was sexy! A few times someone else was brought into our "mix" of a throuple and it was totally hot.... just casual sex with the other person and us. My "Wild" side is into that a lot!

So I think I am stuck in the middle of being poly and openminded non-mono. Maybe some of us just don't fit into one category?

There is no requirement that you can't have casual sex if you are polyamorous. Polyamory just means that you can feel emotional "love" for more than one person and often assumes that people will act and behave in an ethical manner while doing so (although if you read around on this forum, you will find examples of how that isn't always the case in actual practice).

It seems to me that more than one label can be a fit for just one person. From your description, I would say you are both open *and* poly. You are open with some people, and poly with others. And that's cool! I am glad to hear you have had quite a few positive experiences so far.
