Hi, we are couple from middle Georgia (read small/smaller town environment depending on your point of view). We are currently in a triad sort of relationship and it's great! When we started our relationship we first "outed" each other on the first date as poly, and haven't looked back.
After perusing the forum, we found quite a few posts about the culture of being poly in isolated and smaller towns. We have overcome this by one, being very patient and two, using the internet to attract not only the partners we'd like, but more importantly we have formed a community of people we know who know we are poly and it makes all of the difference in the world.
For smaller towns the culture tends to be insular-insular--people stay where they were born, associations are made through a lot of vetting, etc. However, using the internet to meet people in the area tends to attract more open-minded people, because it's a nontraditional way of connecting with people in the first place. In addition, we are not from the town where we live, so we have also had to overcome recreating a new community in general.
Thanks for reading and we hope to see you around the forum!
