Hello from Texas

Hi all!

I typed a long intro and it disappeared. (Lucky for you guys)
Anyways, I'm a polycurious male in my twenties, happily married for three years with one kid and one on the way. I've read "The Polyamorists Next Door" as well as "More Than Two" and done a lot of research on the subject. I'd like to become involved in poly relationships, but my wife is not sure, so I'm just learning all I can right now.

Glad to be here!

I'm right with you. I have recently opened up to my wife. She is having a rough time so we are taking it one day at a time.

Where in Texas are you? We are in Abilene.

Jeremy

Hey Jeremy,
Glad to hear I'm not the only one. Patience seems to be key with my wife. Hoping the best for your situation!
We are near Austin.

Welcome to the forum, smalltown. I'm also from Austin; there's a pretty big poly community here that I'm just starting to dip my toes in. If you go on Meetup there are a few meetup groups that have monthly meetings, and there's also a Poly Cocktails event that meets every second Monday of the month. I haven't been to one yet, but I've heard good things.

"More Than Two" is a great book; I would recommend you ask your wife to read it if she hasn't already. Other than that, my recommendation would be to go slowly and take things one step at a time, with lots and lots (and LOTS) of talking. The minute you close those lines of communication is the minute things start to fall apart.

This forum has been a great resource for me, and I hope it is for you too!

Thanks Polyrhythmic,
I will definitely check out the meetup groups soon.

I have asked her to read it, and it's just not a priority to her right now as she spends most of her reading time learning parenting techniques. I do audiobooks though, and she doesn't, so maybe I'll buy her a copy.
Being in open communication has definitely helped to keep our relationship healthy since telling her about my interest in poly.

Glad to hear from you, glad to be here!

Greetings Smalltownoutcast,
Welcome to our forum. Please feel free to lurk, browse, etc.

I had a look at your other thread and responded briefly. For something somewhat shorter than a book, Franklin Veaux has a Poly FAQ page that perhaps your wife could read and it would address a lot of concerns people new to poly have.

Hopefully you guys can work things out; we'll try to help.
Sincerely,
Kevin T., "official greeter" :)

Notes:

There's a *lot* of good info in Golden Nuggets. Have a look!
