Hey all, from Oregon

So I hate talking about myself, and have been attempting to write this for a while now and keep scrapping it. :)
I've been married to my husband who is also my best friend for 18 years. We had an open relationship before we got married and tried to maintain it for a few years after as well. We didn't know the term poly or other terminology.
For about the past 14 years we've kind of been living in a bubble filled with our kids, personal health issues, and being obligated to live in my tiny, conservative, home town to help out ailing family members.
In the past few months, our bubble has started to dissolve and we feel as if we are being able to breath again. We are committed to stay living where we are for at least another three years, but we are able to start living more freely since our kids are no longer really involved with the community anymore and our choices won't affect them. I know a lot of people don't see anything wrong with raising their children in a multiple parent environment, and I don't either. We just chose to raise ours with two parents and open minds, mostly due to having to go to court for custody of his son and stepdaughter, and having to move back to the house next door to my parents in a town of 700 people.
I'm really glad I found this forum. The past few weeks of lurking here and reading through people's stories has made me feel less isolated since I don't even know where to meet like minded people these days. A lot has changed since the days of IRC and Yahoo Chat rooms :) If anyone is from Eugene Oregon or near there, I'd love to hear from you. Eugene is a little over a half hour from me, but probably the closest big town. I also put a profile on okcupid, but I haven't really felt connected to dating sites.
I hope everyone is having a good weekend and enjoying their summer so far :)

Greetings Mica242,
Welcome to our forum. Please feel free to lurk, browse, etc.

Enjoyed your intro, and glad you're getting a chance to breathe a little and express yourself in your choices of living. When you speak of a little town of 700 it makes me think of Halfway where my late wife was born. I have fond memories of that town. The closest city of any significance is Baker which is a ways down the winding road. (Don't know if Eugene is in the east part of the State)

I think Polyamory.com is a fun and interesting place and there is a lot to learn and do here. Continue to have a look around and make yourself at home; let us know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Kevin T., "official greeter" :)

There's a *lot* of good info in Golden Nuggets. Have a look!

Hi, Mica. I don't know if this post still applies to you and your spouse, but my wife and I currently live in Siletz, Oregon, with plans to move to Corvallis as soon as we can. I would love to talk with you some more, if you would like.

Hello Mica. Your story is very interesting. My girlfriend and I have just started with our open relationship and looking at the poly lifestyle. We are new and seem to come up with many questions. We have been looking for another poly or open relationship couple to meet and share some experience with us. We live in West Eugene. Shoot us PM if you would be interested in meeting up sometime. Hope that you had a nice Thanksgiving! Take care!

Hi Mica, just popping in to say welcome and that I quickly found some really nice and simpatico people when I joined OKCupid. I'd imagine that poly friendly people are plentiful in Eugene, so that site would be a fruitful resource for you as you dip back into the waters.

Welcome!
