So I hate talking about myself, and have been attempting to write this for a while now and keep scrapping it.
I've been married to my husband who is also my best friend for 18 years. We had an open relationship before we got married and tried to maintain it for a few years after as well. We didn't know the term poly or other terminology.
For about the past 14 years we've kind of been living in a bubble filled with our kids, personal health issues, and being obligated to live in my tiny, conservative, home town to help out ailing family members.
In the past few months, our bubble has started to dissolve and we feel as if we are being able to breath again. We are committed to stay living where we are for at least another three years, but we are able to start living more freely since our kids are no longer really involved with the community anymore and our choices won't affect them. I know a lot of people don't see anything wrong with raising their children in a multiple parent environment, and I don't either. We just chose to raise ours with two parents and open minds, mostly due to having to go to court for custody of his son and stepdaughter, and having to move back to the house next door to my parents in a town of 700 people.
I'm really glad I found this forum. The past few weeks of lurking here and reading through people's stories has made me feel less isolated since I don't even know where to meet like minded people these days. A lot has changed since the days of IRC and Yahoo Chat rooms
If anyone is from Eugene Oregon or near there, I'd love to hear from you. Eugene is a little over a half hour from me, but probably the closest big town. I also put a profile on okcupid, but I haven't really felt connected to dating sites.
I hope everyone is having a good weekend and enjoying their summer so far
