One of my devices that connects to the internet has likely been hacked. I now have to go through everything and delete all my accounts. I know I cannot delete this one because the mods insist that any sudden desires for privacy are invalid.
Who ever has hacked me would have seen the notification emails for this and it's likely they will try to undermine my anonymity.

Hello bit of panic there. I have reclaimed my email. Luckily the only thing they did was delete all my contacts. I can get all that back. Meanwhile I'm going to change the email I use for this.

Worst thing is they might have been able to get my new address from that. And I'm stuck here, with a broken leg which as it turns out will take yet another six weeks to heal because they set it wrong and now they have to put pins in my leg.

Usually you just have to change your passwords on email accounts to stop the hackers. Even if you don't use the old email, at least change the password or disable it and change the password on everything else.

That really sucks. :(

Are you certain it was a "who" that hacked your email? Some viruses and malware will erase your contacts after stealing that info.

That is very possible. Person x couldn't have done it, they just aren't capable. Wait and see if I get disowned by my family or not.

Do you play any games that your email is linked to an account?

I wonder, because the only bad instance of hacking I had to ever deal with was years ago, because the Chinese really wanted to get a hold of my World of Warcraft account. They kept hacking the linked email so that they could get "forgot password" access to my Blizzard account and take over my characters, turning them into game-resource-farming bots. Finally I got those little physical authenticator keyfob things, and that put a stop to it.

This was back in like...2010, I think? I shudder remembering all of the things they COULD have gotten into with that email access, but all they seemed to want was my WoW account.

EDIT: How do I know it was the Chinese? Well, my antivirus was able to track intrusion attempts and log them. It showed a map with a connection that pinged around all over the place but traced eventually back to Beijing, pretty much every time.
