My entrance!

Greetings to one and all.
I am making my entrance into this group for two reasons: 1. I come from a country and culture where polygamy is still practiced. In fact, I was born into a polygamous family where my father had 4 wives. 2. When I moved to USA at age 20, I learned about polyamory which is fundamentally different polygamy. While I have not embraced polygamy, I am fascinated by polyamory and I want to learn all about it. Is it a modified form of polygamy? Is it a way of making cheating seem acceptable?

Greetings Moonrakerz,
Welcome to our forum. Please feel free to lurk, browse, etc.

The word polygamy is usually employed to denote polygyny: one man with multiple wives. Polyandry is where one woman has multiple husbands, which is technically one kind of polygamy but a much rarer kind. In polyamory, there can be both multiple men and multiple women, also they're probably not legally married to each other, at least not all of them. I am in an MFM V, so two men and one woman. There's no rule that says we couldn't become an MFMF N (or Z). That's just one example of polyamory. It is related to polygamy in that more than two people are joined in an intimate relationship. To be fair, though, I have to say that some people do use the word "polyamory" to excuse themselves of cheating behavior. That is not authentic polyamory, however.

Let us know if you have more questions.
Sincerely,
Kevin T., "official greeter" :)
