Hello, all! My name is Elyse.

The single most important thing anyone needs to know about me: I have dissociative identity disorder. Multiple personalities.

Still with me? Good.

I'm a mental health advocate in schools, working with the media to help ease some of the stigma for my condition. It's rewarding work, it really is.

I'm 20 years old, 21 in July (a while away, of course). Currently I am engaged to Dominic, or Dom, and he's making a profile here too. We're looking for our third mate, for a lovely, loving triad.

We've decided polyamory is going to work for us because of a few reasons. First being, we know we can't get everything we need from just one person (and though I'm technically many people, I'm meaning Dom and me in specific). Why not expand our love? :3 Another being.. well, I'm asexual. Panromantic, don't get me wrong--but asexual. And I want Dom to be happy in that area. It would make me absolutely pleased as punch if--WHEN we find a girl who can give him that.

So, I suppose I should start on about the others, my alters.
First off, let me say right now: I am sane. I am high-functioning. DID is a coping mechanism to survive trauma in my past. No need to be turned off. ^_^

I have my main seven.

Me, Elyse. I'm 20 years old, shy, snuggly. I like writing and being creative. Um.. I'm not so good at talking about myself. Eep. I'm in college to become a psychologist, and eventually I want to go to the UK to be trained by the Pottergate Centre to specialize in my disorder.

Mae is our protector. She's 24 years old, Russian.. she drinks quite a lot when she's out. She's very protective of those in her care (or so she perceives), including family members and friends. She will never let anything bad happen to those we love. She has a dry sense of humor, and she loves watching horror movies to make fun of them. She's also a martial artist, and she's the one who went through our four years of Tae Kwon Do and achieved black belt!

Ophelia is 21, very British.. She's incredibly generous and kind, and she will spend hours talking our friends through their problems. She is always saying her goal in life is to make everyone feel beautiful, inside and out. She can be quite silly, if she's comfortable with you! She also went through a year of cosmetology school, and is excellent at cutting hair and coloring hair, as well as any style of makeup.

Ellie.. is 4. And doesn't age. She is stuck at the age of innocence, before anything really bad happened to us. She brings everyone around her joy and laughter. She absolutely ADORES My Little Pony, and Disney princesses (especially Mulan, Merida, and Cinderella). She also loves dinosaurs, our cat Klaus (who she calls COWS), and drawing in her 4 year old scribbling manner.

Candy is 13. Her role is to be young and carefree. She talks like a valley girl (which Dom pokes fun at her for), and speaks super quickly. She has severe ADHD, which sometimes gets in the way of her accomplishing.. well, anything. But she is absolutely hilarious. And LOVES the color pink.

Nevan is our scholar, and 25. Nevan's a guy (and being stuck in a female body sort of bums him out, dysphoria and all). He's our scholar, and loves sciences, especially veterinary sciences, genetics, and ethology. He's also the only one of us who needs glasses, and he's got a British accent as well.

Jazz is.. oh, Jazz. He's 23, and very.. flamboyant. Sometimes it's hard to understand his Cockney accent, but he'll just keep on talking whether you understand or not! He's a chain-smoker, which is highly annoying to me. He's another protector, for emotional issues. He makes sure my mood is stable, and that everyone is treating us okay. He's incredibly flirty, and even though he's gay, NO ONE is "safe" from his lovely words. ;)

I hope by now I haven't lost you! Mostly, I think, people on the site will be talking with me (again, Elyse). And I can't wait to hear from you lovelies.

Hugs~

Hi Elyse,
Welcome to our forum.

Now Dom or Dominic, he's not one of you alters? I couldn't tell.

Is it hard having dissociative identity disorder -- what do you find are the benefits versus the challenges?

From your description, your alters all sound like reasonable people, though I'm bad at names so won't always easily tell who's who!

Hopefully we'll meet again here and there on the various boards. I usually try to stay right on top of intros (need a week at least to get caught up there I think), but my appearances on other boards are sporadic.

Good to meet you and hope you enjoy your time with us.
Sincerely,
Kevin T.
