new member OGIHR introducing myself

The name I use is OGIHR (shorthand for Oh God Its Him Run, but pronounced the same as D&D's "ogre"), and I am a writer.

I do not date, at all. There are reasons, which I prefer not to dredge up. So I am specifically not looking for a relationship or a hookup or anything of the sort.

Instead, I put my heart into creating interesting stories. My current project is a reinterpretation of Norse Mythology through rather a science fiction lens, with significant cultural elements of my otherworldly setting being based on my studies of both the mythic sagas and the real-world culture of the ancient Norse.

As a result, the historical culture's attitudes regarding polygyny (and some other sexist double-standards which I don't really approve of in real life) are reflected in my story, and my main cast of characters centers on a four-person romantic group. If it matters, three women who all knowingly propose marriage to the same man (per the culture norms of my story's fantastical world), with the stipulation that they are married to each other as well. ...Because the form of polygamy where multiple wives each have their own bedroom and the singular husband rotates between them just creeps me out. My personal reaction; if it works for you, don't let me stand in your way.

And in case anyone is afraid that I'm having a biased view regarding male vs female homosexuality, I am using the version of Odin who partook in ritual acts of a homosexual nature in the pursuit of his sorcerous practice. So I do intend all sides of the menu to be given a fair showing, to the best of my ability.

However, my own real-world life leaves me with little insight and understanding to help me write these characters in an authentic manner. So I have joined this forum seeking that insight and understanding from those of you who might wish to enlighten me.

I shall await your responses; ideally including some directions as to which section of the forum would be most appropriate for further conversation on the matter.

Thank you for your consideration

Greetings OGIHR,
Welcome to our forum. Please feel free to lurk, browse, etc.

I suppose the best board for you to visit would be General Poly Discussions; also you can post there with any specific questions you may have. The story you're working on does sound interesting, I myself have a particular interest in the Icelandic sagas. (And I was an avid D&Der, back in the day.)

Hope you find your stay on Polyamory.com an enjoyable one.
Sincerely,
Kevin T., "official greeter" :)

Notes:

There's a *lot* of good info in Golden Nuggets. Have a look!

Please read through the guidelines if you haven't already.

Note: You needn't read every reply to your posts, especially if someone posts in a disagreeable way. Given the size and scope of the site it's hard not to run into the occasional disagreeable person. Please contact the mods if you do (or if you see any spam), and you can block the person if you want.

If you have any questions about the board itself, please private-message a mod and they'll do their best to help.

Welcome aboard!

Thank you for your assistance, and for making me feel welcome. I shall take some time to properly arrange several months worth of thoughts for initial presentation to a new discussion-audience, and then create a new thread on the subject in that section. Assuming of course that I don't discover a relevant thread already in the section in question.

Also, the nerd in me feels compelled to point out that while Snorri Sturluson is the primary source for most scholarship into the mythology, I'm actually quite partial to the Gesta Danorum (by Saxo Grammaticus) version of Balder-vs-Hodhur (with Balder being able to have character flaws, unlike the post-Christianization version), as well as to the theories derived from Tacitus's Germania regarding the preponderance of Tyr inscriptions in the archaeological record, compared to his seemingly minor importance in the preserved myths (the idea of the incomparable duelist being the warrior-king before his worshippers moved from being nomadic warriors to develop longterm agriculture, and saw the god of literacy rise in prominence with the need for record-keeping, until most of the stories of his predecessor were selectively edited out from the body getting retold).

So the story I'm working on is rather different than the typical Norse Mythology fare, due to it being set so much earlier in the mythic timeline (Thor isn't even numbered among the gods yet; merely a giantblooded warrior of impossible strength, without either immortality or a magic weapon to his name). But I'll sort out my presentation and share soon enough.

Thank you again.

No problem; I hope you find our resources helpful. :)

I've gotten a pretty decent draft put together for explaining the relationship I wish to find assistance toward writing authentically. It's nearly 2200 words. Yeesh.

Is that far too verbose for the bounds of being neighborly on this form? I mean I've always been a verbose sort of nerd, but would this be too much of a wall of text?

Only way to find out is to try it. I used to write walls of text myself. I might not be remembering right but I think the most the site software allows is 10,000 characters per post. But then there were times when I did two-post posts, or three-post posts, or ...

10,000 it is :(

You are correct. So I posted part one of two, and will finish it once a moderator (hopefully) approves the first block.

And thank you again for your assistance, kdt26417.
