New to Polyamory

Hello All,

I'm an empty nester, 49, pansexual, gender-fluid cis female. I live in Southeast Tennessee.

I am very interested in the poly lifestyle, and have been for quite some time, but have been in one-sided monogamy too many years and it's time to be myself.

I guess having everything in life flip upside down tends to redirect you. So, here I am once again, after almost a decade. I am focused on being my true self, which is-- I've always had the ability to love more than one person in my mind, so why not in practice? I am attracted to men and women. I am neurodivergent, and mentally disabled from PTSD.

I'm not sure yet what style you would call the type of poly I am interested in. I think it's somewhere between solo and kitchen table, because I do not need to cohabitate for financial reasons, but may choose to nest with a partner at some point, and want the openness to have at least one other partner. So I do not know what that may be called... Definitely not looking for someone that's just looking to add to their sex life...

Greetings Venus74Tn,

Welcome to our forum. Please feel free to lurk, browse, etc.

So now you know you are definitely poly, now you just need to figure out what kind of poly. It may be a kind that doesn't have a name. Anyway, good for you for resisting the monogamous conditioning we've all faced and choosing to be yourself.

As you are new to poly, you may have questions. If so, let us know what they are, and we'll try to answer. I'm glad to have you with us, and I hope you enjoy your stay.

Sincerely,
Kevin T., "official greeter" :)

All these terms can be confusing and aren't important unless you have no flexibility in what you want a relationship to look like, or are dating someone who has little flexibility. (You'll need to understand how they do poly.) Based on what you are saying, you are flexible to let a relationship go wherever feels right, so just say poly and leave out anything else.

Welcome! Read, learn, and if you like, create your own blog to share your experiences with starting out, growing and learning.
