ya, have seen some pretty crazy stuff , ... even current stuff, it makes you wonder what are they thinking ???
like the whole polygamy thing, it's pretty much illegal everywhere, ... so the fundamental religious groups (where it's illegal) isolate themselves in their communes, and do whatever the hell they like under "religious freedom" and we say "yup, sounds good, carry on"
the reality of if it was legal, the communes would be much weaker as they could practice their polygamy in public, ... then there is no one protecting you when you decide it's alright to beat your wife, or have a child bride, or marry away your daughter, or have your children (by a different mother) promised to each other, ... and all the other BS they do
the places the laws (what is illegal) promotes problems, ... and every single day no one questions the right and wrong of the situations being created by the current laws, no one questions the laws.
---
or the few years ago when polygamy was brought before the courts here in BC, they took only women from those mormon communes to decide if polygamy is good or bad for women, ... no one living in public under polygamy or polyamory was accepted as a witness for testimony, ... the judge ruled it was harmful, the anti-polygamy ban remained, and nothing changed in the communes.
no one questioned "you came to the conclution polygamy is bad, and you wholeheartedly let it continue in the places where it is bad", ... no one questioned, "why wouldn't you consider the testimony of those not living in the communes???" no one questioned the biased court.
just business as usual.
