poly family vacation

So Real, Lady and the kids and I are heading to vacation together as a family in about 10 days. We've done weekend camping and stuff together a few times over the past few years but this is the first official big vacation. We've talked through the big stuff (sleeping arrangements, one on one time, money etc.) In fact polyweekly had a great podcast the other week that helped guide our final arrangements. But if anybody has any stories advice etc, I always like input.

We are all staying together at universal studios in a suite style room .
Id love to hear from folks who have tried a poly vacation together about how that experience went. And of course any general advice about universal studios Florida.

Wizarding world of Harry potter! I'm super excited.

Cindy

I don't have any poly vacation stories per se, though it's been my experience that keeping things low-key on a vacation is often a helpful strategy.

I hope you guys have much fun; it sounds like you will. Let us know!

As a side note, thanks for the suggestion of polyweekly! I had not heard of it before and downloaded a bunch of podcasts for this weekend when I was driving to visit Jack. Awesome podcast!

I have not experience with this, but we have talked about that when eventually we go on vacation together, it will be appartment style, so that we have two bedrooms (I will swap every other night) and also a common room where we can all stay, plus uppertunity to cook if we want to. We were actually meant to go on a weekend trip together when my husband was sick, then I looked into renting Airbnb flats in the area we were staying.

What's an Airbnb flat (if you don't mind my asking)?

Kevin, Air BnB is a website where people who want to rent out rooms, or their entire apartment or house, and operate as a Bed and Breakfast (either by cooking for them or stocking the place with what they need), register and advertise their place. It is controversial in some locations, because the host is creating a situation where unknown people are regularly or semi-regularly staying as guests, and sometimes that happens in places where that isn't really allowed. It's actually not lawful to do in NYC, because there are laws against "short-term hotels" that are not legally registered with the city, but people get away with it. I know I wouldn't want a bunch of strangers always coming and going in my small apartment building, because we don't have any security. Also, there was an incident in California where some guests totally wrecked someone's house.

But a lot of people swear by it because most people charge rates that are much less than a hotel would.

Yes, Airbnb.com is people retning out their homes for a weekend or month. I used to be an Airbnb hostess for my friend's flat one summer, it works because usually both hosts and guests get graded. In Norway it is perfectly legal to rent out your own home. Anyway, I hope that in the future we can have some vacation time all three of us :)

Thanks for that info on Airbnb, it sounds a little like trading houses for a week or a month with someone abroad (but I don't know what that's called).

Awesome! We travel to conventions a lot and this will save us a ton

Well, no there is no apartment exchanging going on. The people who rent out their places either have somewhere else to stay or will stay on their premises to run it like a Bed & Breakfast.

Yes airbnb works pretty good. Especially if you are traveling to 'hip' urban or vacation areas/college towns. Whenever I go to Austin I use it. Often you can rent a whole place to have all to yourself.

For this trip we are staying on site at universal studios in Orlando with joining rooms. Should be fun.
Had to laugh last night as lady and I made our game plan of date nights and kids free siesta times. We are both planners. It was a goodl bonding conversation.
We have a pretty good rough plan. We each get a date night with real. And a night of girl time together to ride all the stomach turning rides real hates and the kids aren't ready for . We also alternating adult naptimes so everybody gets rest and one on one/couple time as needed.
We worked out money in detail too as it is very important to me to pay my part.
So I'm feeling pretty peeped right now!

here we go!

I fly out tomorrow for vacation! Wish us all luck. I'll be sure to post and let folks know how things went when I get back. Here's to happy family time and hopefully no sticky issues.

Good luck! Hope it goes splendidly! :)

So far so good. We ve been doing all the harry potter stuff together which is fantastic. Real and I got naptime/alone time yesterday. Lady and real are having their alone time now while I've got the kids in the pool. It's been a lot of fun and no drama. But it's good lady and I worked out a schedule. She definitely was ready for kid free time today. I'm glad we are able to tali and took the time ahead of time to think about what we each needed. Here's to be successfully halfway through. More fun to come

Home from vacation. Every went beautifully. For anyone doing the same I highly suggest listening to the poly weekly podcast about vacation. If we hadn't talked through all possible pitfalls ahead of time it could have been rough. For example real hates roller coasters while lady and I could ride them all day. Lol lady and I had good bonding time on the rides and he got to watch videogames on twitch. And the scheduled alone times were helpful for all of us. Each person had dyad time and we all split kid duty as needed without feeling overwhelmed. My only bobble was due to the kids restrictions we have about touch around the youngest. It's hard not to smooch every time you want to. They have a 10 year old boy we are very discrete around and a 13 year girl who occasionally questions stuff and we explain as she asks. But I was able to articulate my needs and lady understood and helped run interference as needed. Yay for success!

On a side note if you ever want to go to universal orlando for harry potter stay at an on site hotel for early admission and express passes. It's completely worth the price.

also if anyone wants details on our pre vacation discussion re: talking about money childcare sexy times etc. Just pm me.

Really happy it was so successful for you and your polycule. Sounds like a fabulous time. :D I would be interested in the kid poly interference convos, as mine are 7 and 9.

I'll PM you, but do you know specific podcasts for poly vacations with kids? I honestly found a vacation with myself, my boyfriend, and our girlfriend to be a piece of cake. And I had a cast.... But I'm not sure how to do it with kids along....
