Introduction: Poly bi-guy from Alabama

Hi there,

I’m Cam. Bisexual and polyamorous. 30 years old and married.

My wife and I have been testing the waters of living a poly lifestyle for about 3-4 years, but unfortunately Alabama doesn’t seem to have much of a community of polyamorous people that we can find. We’ve each dated a little, but haven’t really made any real lasting connections with anyone so far

I’ve tried several dating apps and they all seem too seedy or they’re filled with bots that spam you to tears. Haha. I came here in hopes of finding a real community of real people that can help guide me into the lifestyle.

More about me; I have a strong passion for board games and have a huge collection of about 60 or so games. I listen to all different kinds of music, but mostly post-hardcore and synthwave. I love podcasts, listen to them all day at work. I play a few instruments, but I’m mediocre at best with them. I’m not into politics, fairly apolitical in fact, but I do enjoy a good conversation about philosophy. My favorite topics are free will and solipsism. I’m non-religious, but I like learning about religion.

I think I might also be considered sapiosexual, but I’m not super clear on what that means so don’t hold me to it. Haha!

Anyways,
I’m very excited to meet you!
Thanks for reading my intro :)

Greetings CmMrsn,
Welcome to our forum. Please feel free to lurk, browse, etc.

You might find the following YouTube worthwhile ...
... it's Sam Harris on Free Will. It's lengthy, somewhere in the one-hour range, but it's quite interesting.

You seem to be having difficulties finding poly-friendly people to date. Have you ever considered moving to a more poly-friendly city? There's an interesting thread on that ... https://polyamory.com/threads/poly-friendly-cities.69131/page-3#post-295157

You seem to be an interesting person, also a potentially fun Chess.com opponent. I could use one more player to play against, maybe if you are more advanced than me you could impart hints and wisdom to me along the way (while kicking my butt in a game). Let me know if you're interested!

Good to have you onboard.
Sincerely,
Kevin T., "official greeter" :)

Notes:

There's a *lot* of good info in Golden Nuggets. Have a look!

Please read through the guidelines if you haven't already.

Note: You needn't read every reply to your posts, especially if someone posts in a disagreeable way. Given the size and scope of the site it's hard not to run into the occasional disagreeable person. Please contact the mods if you do (or if you see any spam), and you can block the person if you want.

If you have any questions about the board itself, please private-message a mod and they'll do their best to help.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks for the welcome, Kevin! I haven’t seen that video but I did read Sam Harris’s book on free will. :) I will definitely enjoy watching it. If you want to play chess my username on there is the same as on here. I’m not an advanced player at all, maybe somewhere between beginner and intermediate.

Alabamian here too. In the Huntsville area by chance? There are definitely open-minded geek circles here. But even among trusted friends I am finding it difficult to out myself.. not due to the friends themselves so much as the potential collateral damage beyond.

My sympathies for living in the South. My understanding is that men down there frequent gay online porn sites more than any other region of the country, since it's almost impossible to be out. I have a dear friend who is trans. She moved up here to Massachusetts from Tennessee 5 years ago, and it completely changed her life. Her family disowned her years ago. She couldn't work, she could barely find housing down there. Now she is a successful teacher, a trans advocate videographer/interviewer, and a champion disc golfer on women's leagues. She is living her authentic life.

Likewise, MA is an extremely poly-friendly state. A city near Boston, Somerville, was the first US city to legalize 3 parent birth certificates. :)

I'm also really into comparative religion studies. (I'm pagan and currently celebrating Yule). Check out my writings on our Spirituality board, if you want!

Hello Sarai! 👋😃
I’m in the Tuscaloosa/Northport area. When you say open-minded geek circles, what do you mean?

also, hello Magdlyn too! 👋😁
I hate that your friend was treated that way. So glad she found her place. I hope one day people can just live and let live, allowing people to be who they are.
I’m not sure I could ever move away from here myself. I’ve got my feet planted too firmly in a career that I love and it’s not something that could follow along with me.

Ugh, Tuscaloosa - not my favorite Alabama city. Due to all the engineers and tech employers in town, we just have a high number of both geeks and transplants. Pretty good arts scene too. I've had an easier time making geek friends or finding gaming/maker friends here than I did in California.

I don’t blame you there haha. It’s a bit too much of exactly what it is. (A very sarcastic roll tide yeehaw to ya with full intent of irony) And to make it worse than it’s ever been, it seems like EVERYWHERE the roads are under construction these days.
