Bed size questions

I will be moving in with my partners soon, after being together for nearly nine months. When staying at their flat, we have had arranged sleeping between a double bed and an airbed, but we would like to get a bigger bed to be able to accommodate all of us in it.

Two of us are plus size, making an already tight squeeze even tighter for us. Any recommendations for where to get a bed from and what size to get?

Whenever this question gets asked, the standard answer is either a queen/full plus twin pushed together with a king size mattress topper or a California king turned sideways (then you have to get new sheets) and two side-by-side sets of blankets and sheets so the person in the middle can uncover themselves when they get hot.

You might also think about getting a sturdy bed frame… Particularly if there will be a lot of movement on the bed.

Everyone else has given great advice. I hadn’t thought of turning a Cal King, but I would try that. If it works, there should be a lot more room. Also, just from personal experience, make sure to check the weight limits of the frame and mattress. We have broken two bed frames, and now our Cal King in on the floor. It works for now.

My vote is for the (sideways) California King.

Another typical answer, whenever this question gets asked, is to remind you that full-grown adults living real life might have difficulty consistently sleeping in a 3-person bed, no matter how big it is.

It might make sense to have a second bed in a separate room as a back-up for if someone has trouble sleeping, has to get up early/stay up later than the others, isn't feeling well, etc.

I have trouble sleeping with one partner in even a king bed! Three people in one bed would be my nightmare :)
