for gods sake

To stop it the site admin might need to institute tougher sign up requirements. Not sure about what that would entail, but the moderators have done a great job in the past of deleting spam posts quickly.

I was a moderator in here years ago. Back then, spam was zapped almost as soon as it appeared. I think perhaps there are an insufficient number of active moderators, and so I've offerred to help, if desired.

I notice somewhere it says new members will have their first five posts monitored by a moderator before they can post and have their posts show up immediately. But it appears that is not actually the case, and I wonder why.

There is a lot more spam that gets caught that you all never even see. The stuff that gets through has to be zapped manually, and there are really only two Moderators actively doing that, it seems. We aren't here 24/7 and do the best we can, considering we do have our own lives to deal with and are volunteers. These things come in waves, sometimes more than others. If it takes a couple of days for us to zap the spam, just ignore it and be patient - we will get to it! Instead of starting a thread to complain about it, the best way to help out is to click the "Report Post" button on the offending spam. Thanks.

I'm sure if you put out a call for new volunteers there'd be people willing to step up. I would.

I think we've had a wave of spammers lately.

Hello, all.

Remember, we're all in different time zones, too - so, even though you've seen particular spam messages sitting there for hours and hours, a Moderator might just be having their morning coffee and not gotten to it yet.

It just happens every now and then that a wave of a lot of spam comes in, that gets past the filters. It has been much worse than this in the past.

Believe me, when we Moderators login, we see a lot more spam than you do! But we see what has been caught in the filters, as well as what got past them. You regular members might not see any spam for weeks, while we are managing a crapload of it daily.

So, please don't worry and get all freaked out about it. It will calm down as it always does, after all the spammers' IP addresses are recorded, and if we need more Moderators, we'll let everyone know!
