A tree fell on my house this past weekend. It’s not our tree. I’m stressed with my business stuff but now there’s more to raise anxiety. The tree first smashed through and obliterated our HVAC unit, so we no longer have ac in the house while we wait for estimates.
As it fell, it landed on our porch pergola, which is made of metal, and it crumpled instantly, wrenching itself out of the deck planking, leaving huge holes where it was once secured.
The tree branches are all up on the roof. It didn’t punch through, but it damaged the drip edge and dislodged shingles. It’s uncertain if the impact did anything to the roof joists or supports or whatever they are called. Haven’t had a roofer out since the tree is still on there.

We actually have another small tree down on the southeast side of the backyard but that’s small (comparatively) and fell onto another bush which absorbed all the impact. Also not our tree.
Our stovetop has also stopped working completely, we’re assuming from a power surge during the storm. Our neighborhood was without power for a couple days, but that had nothing to do with our tree - it missed all the power lines by a smidge. A huge part of the tree still exists though and it’s a hazard to our house. The power company told us they would cut down the top of it to protect their lines but wouldn’t remove the entire tree. They also shared they would destroy our side yard driving through to do this.

There is another hackberry tree that IS ours, that you can see to the back left of the one photo. It scares us now, though two arborists have said it looks fine to them. We’ve been quoted $3000 and $2800 to take it down and we might do that later this year. There are more important things to focus on right now, I’m afraid.
