I exist (in TX)

Hello dear reader. I have the strangest urge to mention that I exist. I'm not a credentialed polyperson; it's possible that I'm an imposter. I'm in the slow and painful process of divorce at the moment. I left my marriage toward the end of 2019 in large part because I knew after 7 years that monogamy was not for me. My partner was a swer, so it's a little more complicated than just "monogamy," but after we talked about it, my partner was clear that they weren't interested in a poly relationship, so sadly it was time for me to move on.

I was excited then because I had a new relationship brewing and I was happy to meet people who would be interested in the kind of relationships that I was. Then the pandemic started. Later my new relationship came to a close. It's been nice learning to live with myself and exploring my own interests, but I'm really starting to grow tired of the company of my bathroom mirror and looking to expand my relationship horizons.

If you had a poly community before the pandemic, what would you recommend to someone who doesn't? If you came out as poly/started poly-soloing during the pandemic, what have been your successes and failures?

Also, hi. Btw I live in Austin, TX.

Howdy Austin. Corsicana here. Here the pandemic had minimal impact. We stayed within our group with very occasional ventures outside of it. Those ventures were vanilla. SW and I had covid very early on and carry antibodies. Ewe had covid 3 months later. It was just part of life.

As far as community, this site is it for us. The open communication and participation here is great.

Nice to meet you! Glad to know I've found a good place. Cursory lurking corroborates what you've said: looks like a good group of people here.

Greetings spencerharmon,
Welcome to our forum. Please feel free to lurk, browse, etc.

For about a year or two, I attended the meetings of the Albuquerque poly group; since then my attendance has dropped off, but I am still active on this forum. Austin is a poly hub, so you probably have a poly group (or three) in your city. Google "Austin polyamory," and see what turns up. In the meantime, continue to be active on this forum, and you will be able to make many friends. Welcome to poly, and to the poly community!

Sincerely,
Kevin T., "official greeter" :)

There's a *lot* of good info in Golden Nuggets. Have a look!

Thanks for the thoughtful greeting! Nice to meet you, Kevin.

I found a couple of groups that were active in the austin area, but I haven't found any upcoming meetups. Likely a pandemic thing, I imagine. I also don't use facebook or any other social media so it's tough to find stuff sometimes. Maybe I'll luck out and some more folks familiar with the scene in TX will see my post here! 😅

Yeah, with the pandemic, a lot of poly groups feel it is unwise to get together at this time. We largely have to limit our interactions to the online, for now. Things were looking better for a while earlier this year, but now we have this second wave of pandemic to deal with. It's discouraging. I only hope that by this time next year, some poly groups will start getting together (in meatspace). Good luck!

Look up Collettes Austin. They have a poly night.

You can also post in our North America forum here, mentioning your area and saying you're looking for poly friends and /or a network.

Thanks yall!
I found Colletes website; that looks very interesting. I was surprised to see they have a questionnaire that asks if you're in the lifestyle hahaha. Sounds very serious. I'll have to consider it.
I found the North America forum also. Thanks, maybe I'll post in there.
I appreciate all of your advice. :)
