Love Songs

6 years ago my partner tried to drag me kicking and screaming into a poly lifestyle after he fell for a lass he was supposed to be dating casually. One of the things I wailed at him was -

"But who will you think of when they play a love song on the radio?"

He didn't even understand the question but I'm one of those people who see stories and people in songs and I was genuinely confused as to how that worked with poly relationships.

Well yesterday a song came on talking about you and me, and for the 1st time my mind went to a plural you and not one or the other of my guys.

So questions -

What/who you think about when they play a love song?

Do you know any songs which feel really poly?

And which love songs annoy you?

I have to say I'll be at a swingers club and Rhianna's Only Girl will come on - and ok it gets a little raunchy but I think jeez can't the DJ read the crowd!?!

So many love songs have become some version of lauding jealousy that I can't be bothered with them.

I have different songs that I associate with different people, but in general, hearing a random love song doesn't making me think of anyone. It makes me think the music industry, especially pop, needs a serious makeover.

I'm a sucker for an ambiguous song...& that doesnt necessarily mean a love song. I listen to a lot of music that has lyrics that come across more like poetry. I feel like its easier to figuratively insert myself into them or apply them to my life that way. A 'you' in a song like that can easily be taken as plural. Pop songs are sometimes so good, but are SO SO literal, & I can only appreciate them for their catchy and danceable hooks.

But then again, I also have love songs that remind me of platonic friends, so maybe I'm not the best view point here haha
