Hello dakota,
There are poly-friendly apps and sites, such as Feeld and OKCupid, also you can get out there and start meeting people in person, they do not have to be poly, they just have to be open-minded enough to consider poly when you explain it to them. Your chances of meeting open-minded people are greater if you attend fringe events such as Ren Faires, BDSM munches, sci-fi conventions, indie concerts, and the like. But even if you just join a class or a club that features something that interests you, you may make new friends there who will be open to hearing about poly, and then who knows if/when a friendship might bloom into something more. As for rings, you don't have to remove your ring, if you are just looking for friendship. I, personally, am in favor of letting romance grow naturally out of friendship, as it will. You may also want to google "Wisconsin polyamory," and see if any local poly groups pop up.
Just some thoughts,
Kevin T.
