Polyamory in Novels, Film, and T.V.

I was hoping to make a list of Novels, Films or T.V. series that show Polyamory.
This idea was sparked by a member asking me how I learned about Polyamory and I'm fairly certain I first found examples of it in film.
Jules Et Jim came to mind and She Came To Stay. I most recently saw an example of Polyamory in the T.V. Series Shameless. We could discuss the accuracy of these representations or the health of the relationships portrayed, but I'd rather just list examples for now.

A few books to start with

A few fiction books with poly characters or relationships that I've enjoyed:

The Fifth Sacred Thing by Starhawk
Door Into Fire (also Door Into Shadow and Door Into Sunset) by Diane Duane
Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen by Lois McMaster Bujold

Other threads on this subject ...

My favorite poly-friendly films:

  • "December Bride" (1990).
  • "A Small Circle of Friends" (1980).
  • "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" (2008).
  • "Bandits" (2001).
  • "Paint Your Wagon" (1969).
  • "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" (1969).
  • "Summer Lovers" (1982).
  • "Threesome" (1994).
  • "Three" (2010).
And "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" (1988) has a certain poly flavor, especially at the end.

If you like science fiction, Robert A. Heinlein was a big advocate (albeit a heterosexist one) of polyamory. Start with "Stranger in a Strange Land."

"Bandits" (2001)

I kept seeing this one mentioned in lists and was racking my brain trying to figure out how poly entered into it. So I just now looked it up and realized I was thinking of the 1997 German film about a group of female prisoners who form a band and escape from prison. Now I have to watch this one.
