Research Project :)

I hope it's ok that I share this here with you. I'm doing a project on polyamorous relationships for a class...

I am doing a research project for a class I am taking this semester at Northern Kentucky University. I am looking for volunteers to take my survey online. The survey should take no more than 15-20 minutes of your time. Here is the link to the survey:
https://nku.co1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_9LjZKTEwiiRouRD

Took the survey. A little mono-centric. You can't choose "married" AND "cohabitating" with S.O. for example...

Taken :)

Good luck with your project!

Took the survey but your questions only cover a very mindset.

Thank you for taking my survey :) I knew that my relationship status wouldn't cover everything which is why I put the other option. I was just looking at some basics of polyamory and didn't want to make an overwhelmingly long survey that people wouldn't want to take which is why I choose the questions I did.

Also, there is no trans*/GQ or other option for gender-- "prefer not to answer" is not the same as neither male nor female.

Reminds me of when I took those silly relationship quizzez when I never had any before. Couldn't finish them without lying. Plus anything that seems like it is being guided a certain way, or where one can guide themselves to the result they want (i.e. "Which element are you?"), isn't all that valid for research.

And from the remarks about your quiz it sounds like no one should even bother. It is already skewed.
I'll take a look at it in a few minutes but I don't really have much hope to be proven wrong in my assumptions.

I'll probably repeat some stuff.

Only lists the 3 obvious orientations. Putting Other instead of None of the above would have been better. More so would have been to add a couple more orientations, or an Other with a text box.

Current relationship status: anything under separated is not all that thought out. Could have gone with "In an open relationship/marriage, [fill in the blank]" for the Single options. Not even going to touch on the second class marriage option, even if it is true for some people.

Number of people living in the house hold shouldn't be just a text box. Unless one likes having to sort and record all that business.

Not even an Other with a text box for the choices describing type of relationship.

With this one you should have done some research and chose at least the major forms, and again an Other with a text box was needed.

Currently dating more than one person? Restrictive as it made me want to assume anyone who answered yes

Jealousy question is fine but one cannot continue if they checked the No bubble. A person is then forced to "Please answer this question". At this point my first thought is whomever made this just doesn't know how to make surveys. Or the program used is undoubtedly retarded.

Same with relationship restrictions. Online job applications let people slide on by if they answered no. I'm starting to believe it's both user and/or program error now.

Rest of it is decent as far as options go.
Completed it when I didn't really plan to.

While I appreciate the comments, I don't think it's really appropriate to be so highly critical of a basic project I am doing for a class. Also, this data needs to be analyzed. I can't have a million options for each question. I did do research, and there honestly is not a lot of credible scientific research on the subject. I used what I found to base my questions off of. I truly appreciate everyone taking the time to take my survey, not so much the overly critical responses however. I did the best with the survey as I could.

If you don't think it's appropriate for anyone, or just me, to highly criticize your work: Why did you bother posting it?

You think a teacher won't be just as critical of your basic efforts?
If it's just a basic project to you I can understand the basic research you did to make this. It's still problematic. Whatever results you get from it are already skewed.
You came here asking certain people to take a quiz. If it comes off as lazy or biased, it's going to get pointed out.

This is particularly problematic tho. You cannot really infer anything from what you are able to provide.

For example some people live with people whom are not family nor whom they are in a relationship with. It would provide you more info if you asked, "How many people are in your household?" "Of the people you live with, how many are you involved with?"... or something of the like.

I agree with previous comments about this survey. I took it, but I was hesitant on a lot of answers. I co-habitate in a V with my husband and my boyfriend. I have an adult son who lives with me, along with my 17 year old daughter. I wasn't sure what to put when asked if I was currently dating more than one person - I don't consider myself dating because we are in a PolyFi situation.

Resyrchr, you say you needed to phrase things a certain way in order to be able to analyze the data, but the information isn't going to be useful because the questions aren't working. You say there wasn't any credible scientific research to guide you, but unfortunately the results you are going to get aren't going to be credible either.

Yeah, I checked no on the jealousy question. Neither of my guys has ever expressed any and I do check in frequently to see if they are experiencing issues. It cheesed me slightly that the quiz wouldn't let me continue. If you are going to present a quiz, then please have it operate correctly.

Please don't consider these personal attacks - I hope you are able to make revisions so that the data will be useful.

@jayblue122

I omitted my "ever heard of roommates?" remark because I already raked over everything else. I knew I was going to get shit for criticizing it. I know this. I put a zero on purpose even though I live with a relative. Because I figured it was asking if I lived with my SO. It wasn't specific.
Sorting through that instead of a set number of choices is a lot more work. It's going to end up with too many explanations that one cannot group together by similarity, no matter how hard they try.
Plus I've seen lazy surveys like this on the asexuality forum a several years back.
That's why I raked this over like I did.

The household question was hard to answer in my case since I share two separate homes.

I also do not practice hierarchical poly and many questions were geared towards that.

Jayblue - your very first question, I cannot answer. I am 37 and it seems you've left out a population segment. :)

@bluebird Fixed!

I'd be interested to see if you got similar results to mine. I said that the results wouldn't be shared anywhere outside of my class so I'm going to leave this post here for an admin to respond to. Since a lot of people here took the survey I'd be willing to share my paper and/or class presentation with people here if it was deemed appropriate to do so. I'm giving my class presentation tomorrow, I'm hoping that it goes well! Thanks so much to anyone who took the survey, and I apologize for a few glitches in the questions. It was my first time making a survey and once I opened it up for responses, the software wouldn't let me go in to change anything because it could skew results.

I posted the link to the results in the other thread if you wanted to check it out :)
