Fun and Frolic With Long-Term Love

I’m gonna do flowers for a wedding! This is so exciting!

I’m gonna do flowers for a wedding! This is so exciting!
I love all your progress. The headpieces and bouquets? All in silk? Table pieces, altar pieces?

I am officiating at a handfasting/ring exchange ceremony on the Summer Solstice, for 2 of my oldest dearest friends. They are FF, and got legally simply married quickly right after the orange dump got elected, but only about 10 people attended. They are now going to have their official celebration. I am going to make myself a floral wreath headpiece. The newlyweds don't want to wear floral crowns. One is pretty masc. The other is real girly, but her white gown is covered in colorful embroidered flowers as it is. She might just do a single flower in her hair. But I figured since I will be "Priest/ess" on the Solstice, a floral wreath in my hair wouldn't be too much. They have agreed they would like me to wear one. I am excited to make one!

It’s someone I know from my Blessing Box days - I have watched her kids be born and grow up. I reached out and offered to do free headcrowns for her daughters. She was excited and said yes, and then shared she didn’t have any flowers at all yet. I did some math and decided I need promo pictures so I can score some more weddings; I’m donating my time in exchange for photos.

So, she will pay the cost for all the flowers I get and I will make the parent corsages/boutonnières, groom & groomsman boutonnières, her bouquet and toss bouquet, and her four bridesmaids bouquets. I figure I can break these up over a week and get them all done with 2 hours max each morning. It’s a beach theme wedding. Teal and coral, off white and champagne. Fake flowers for sure. I would have enjoyed using real ones but she’s getting married June 22 and has zero budget. She didn’t even know what a corsage was! I’m happy to be able to help her out and I can get the pictures I need!

I’ve made two of my four wedding bouquets. I only have pics of the one I put together when I was marrying PunkRock. While looking for photos, I made this collage!

IMG_6669.jpeg

First wedding I was 18, not even out of high school for a year. Married my high school sweetheart as an escape - I realize that now. We were very mismatched. We lasted 9 years married until I cheated and left him. Anyway, I paid $50 for this bouquet from a florist!

Second wedding was to DarkKnight. I think I was 28? I made my bouquet but I don’t have digital pics of it. We’re still together in spite of being legally divorced. 20 years next year!

Third wedding was PunkRock. I was 37 or 38. I made my fascinator and bouquet for $50 total. Writing this I had to do some math with my age and I just realized our wedding anniversary was this week! Totally didn’t remember. Good. We were together for almost 7 years until he cheated and left. Ugh.

Fourth wedding was to MisterMoonbeam. I was 45. Our two year wedding anniversary just passed. I bought my bouquet from a friend and then didn’t really use it for anything. I would have made it but I was getting ready for my surgery and thought I was gonna die so I had better things to do!

Making headpieces for "her daughters"? Bridesmaids, you mean? 4 headpieces? 6 bouquets, and a whole lotta corsages/boutonnieres? Whew. Good thing it's all silk, takes the pressure off. I've never done a silk wedding.

Love your dresses, especially the 2nd one. It has a slight 1920s look, my fave era for fashion.

I am going to be dressing simply, as I certainly didn't want to compete with the brides. A plain beige linen vest and linen wide leg pants, with vertical stripes of off-white, beige, peach and grey/blue. I'll pick up those colors in the headpiece. It's a daytime outdoor wedding.

2 little flower crowns. They’re flower girls. 🥰 I told her she can get the baskets for them to drop petals.

Something like this. I just made a ton of these for this weekend. I can bang one out in 15 minutes.

In her colors though. These are some of the ones I made for this weekend. I sell them for $25 but it’s like 2.50 in flowers, since I got them at 70% off!

I edited my post as you were commenting, I think!

I woke up early but fell back asleep until noon yesterday, and then when I woke up I felt nauseous and had a splitting headache. I haven’t had a headache in ages, and it did not want to leave me alone! I soldiered through it and made MisterMoonbeam an antlered headband & corsage set to wear on Saturday (to be sold on Sunday to someone so that’s why the corsage!), and then I made another Flourish crown to sell. At that point I thought I might die from the headache.

I took two extra strength Tylenol and went to bed. I slept for two hours and when I woke up, both DarkKnight and MisterMoonbeam were home from work. We had dinner and watched an episode of Silo. Then I spent time prepping for my show - I put my logo stickers on some bags for branding purposes (when people purchase my items they then are carrying my name around the event) and then I worked until 11:30 pm tagging everything.

OMFG what a mess.

I was supposed to do this while I was sleeping during the day! The tagging gun I bought to try is not meant for headbands, even though they’re mostly made of fabric. I tried one and it left a huge hole, so that was straight out. I had printed my own price tags - DarkKnight made them on 2-inch cardstock circles that have a pre-punched hole for tagging. They actually look really great!

Since I wasn’t using the gun, I now had to hand tie them onto my products with curling ribbon. Thank goodness I had a green! It’s not a sage green which would match my color story, but it’s close enough. I am going to order some after this show that does match, but hopefully I sell everything and won’t have to retag these particular items!

I had to stop when I did because I ran out of the tags! I didn’t realize I had that many items, but apparently I was more prolific than anticipated! So now I need to buy more of this particular type of Avery paper. Frustrating! I ended up using the little sticker tabs on all of my Bud and Blossom crowns and a few headbands now have them as well. It works! Only it doesn’t have my name or branding on them. Oh well.

I have 2 small bins of products to label tomorrow - maybe 50 things total. I can get that done in the morning, first thing. MisterMoonbeam loaded most everything into the van last night. He has two appointments tomorrow, so we will head out in the afternoon.

I made some pricing collages for my Facebook page. Just for fun. This pic shows the four levels of size and pricing for my flower crowns: Bud, Blossom, Flourish and Fabulosity. I made 57 of these altogether, to sell this weekend.

IMG_6676.jpeg

Then I have 44 floral headbands to sell. All but two have matching corsages, but I have some random corsages that didn’t sell last show, so total I have 52 of those. They’re $15 solo, or $5 off if bought with a headpiece.

IMG_6677.jpeg

My 3D print categories have expanded from zero last show! I have 5 devil horn headbands, 1 ice headband, 1 Phoenix, (just finished printing all of the flames) and 5 single unicorn horn headbands. I made 5 tentacle headbands, but one is at the craft store on my end cap, and the other I sold yesterday to someone who saw my stuff online who knows me from trading garb pieces. Actually, the one that sold is the one pictured here!

IMG_6678.jpeg

I have some differently priced headbands as well - ones with antlers are $35 and I charge that for my “Maryland is a Cult” ones as well.

So I have a lot to say about my event this weekend, well I guess the first day, but I am dead on my feet and have to be up again to be at the show at 7 am! So, uh, here is the skinny:

I did amazing. I made $2477 from 10 am to 8 pm. So many smiles, so much happiness! I am a little in shock, but I also have no real inventory for tomorrow! I’m sold out of everything, but we’re going to try and sell what I have left!

Hahahahahaha! I made myself into a meme:

IMG_6849.jpeg
Goodnight!

Second day vending at my first outdoor show. We had next to no product and still pulled AMAZEBALLS numbers!! $4,345 total for the weekend. I am a little in shock. I guess my stuff is good!

Congrats on such a successful show! My recommendation would be make a cute chalkboard sign you can hang with the general pricing tiers and then only put price tags on the odds and ends that don't match the general tiers, and you can have a note on the sign that items with custom pricing have tags. It saves you the work, and the money spent on all of those resources as all of that eats into your bottom line (and just creates more trash when people immediately take the price tag off and toss it). It might also be worth having a flip book with images of your custom items and examples from your regular line. That way if you sell out on things that someone might want, they might be further encouraged to go online and place a custom order, etc. (unless you'd prefer to mainly sell at shows and not have to worry with a ton of custom orders!)

Thank you for the ideas!!! I appreciate it, for reals.

That said, it has been drilled into my head by like a hundred posts on various vendor pages, that every item needs a price sticker, because people don’t read and they also don’t like to ask for help. When my booth pics were submitted for review and criticism, the number one was that my price stickers didn’t have any branding on them. So, as aggravating as the extra expense was, I printed the individual little tags. I do think they add something, and they honestly came in handy when I ran out of business cards this weekend - the price tags have my logo and QR code on them. Many people asked for a card and I was able to tell them they could scan the price tag!

I am actually thinking of making a flip book! At the moment I am moving over most of my product photos to Pinterest, and even that is slow going. I have so many things I need to get done this next month - neither of these look like they will come to fruition anytime soon, unfortunately. 🙃 I’m supposed to write a bio this week too but I am not confident in anything extra at this point.

Today we were featured in the news! I’ve blanked out the business name but omg I love this photo of MisterMoonbeam and I so very much!

Today was…a lot. I’m too tired to write about it now. My to-do lists include a list of lists I need to make. 😭 I did manage to get started on two new products - I want to make a couple of staffs for sale each show, and I finished a prototype of a cottagecore straw hat.

IMG_6999.jpegIMG_7003.jpeg

I think I will sell these hats at $30. I love the little lady bugs! I went back and forth on adding an off-white ribbon, but so far everyone has said they think it would be one addition too many. I’m still thinking about it!

I had therapy yesterday and I have knocked back to just once-a-month visits instead of every other week. That feels good. She told me she thinks I could probably shift to just see her on an as-needed basis, but I felt more comfortable weaning myself off the help slowly. ☺️

I have three hats complete now - two ladybugs and one with a yellow mushroom theme. I have a purple mushroom on deck, and when I complete that, I have a pack of blue mushrooms and another ladybug to put together. I figure that will give me a good start for selling these. I *might* bring them to my Pride show but I think these will debut at my household Damsel in this Dress tea party and swap & shop that I am hosting on June 22. I am hoping they will sell well at the Farmer’s Market I’m doing on June 28.

It’s 2 am - I fell asleep at like 11 pm last night but I just woke up for no reason. I need to take my Levothyroxine (I wake up in the middle of the night each evening to take it) and get back to Dreamland, but here I am. I awoke thinking about ordering a new banner for the one side of my tent that will either say “Flower Crowns” or “Headpieces” - I’m not sure which to use, to be honest. Hurray for not stress sleeping, because apparently my brain wants me to be alert to think about it right now instead. 😅

I am now also still worried about budgeting. I finally had a chance to get caught up on figuring out personal bills for the month of June, moving into July. All is well, but I really, really need to finish up with getting my business receipts in order for the bookkeeper. I did manage to get them all of my Amazon statements, but my last piece of business is to get them all of the credit card and bank statements so they can record all of my purchases with those - Joann’s, Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, hotel fees, booth costs, Staples. I think everything I’ve bought is across 6 or so cards, so it’s a lot. I need to have the guys print their statements out, then I need to redact the stuff that isn’t business related and get them to the bookkeeper.

I’m going to send a message to both DarkKnight and MisterMoonbeam and set a time coming up for me to individually meet with them and have that printing and marker-work happen. It’s stressing me out to not have the records sent in, but the bookkeeper doesn’t seem too worried about it yet. I also need to get my cash sales info to them, which IS needed sooner, as they will need to submit my taxes quarterly, I think?

I’m hanging out with TheEngineer most of the day today - I should get some sleep so I will be ready to go when he gets here in the morning!

I have 8 completed hats, and that’s gonna have to suffice for the month! I’m really happy with how they look and I’m going to set the price point at $35.

Yesterday was MisterMoonbeam’s 50th birthday. He didn’t want any fuss, and he asked for 3 specific things (which he got): sushi, a massage, and a chocolate cake with buttercream frosting. While he was out for his lunch and the rub down, DarkKnight and I worked on credit card statements. I’m not done with everything financial yet, but I have a good start now, at least.

Today I spent pretty much the entire day with MisterMoonbeam. I decided I didn’t have enough time to paint my storage room, so instead I settled for ripping out the old torn and nasty linoleum and then MisterMoonbeam installed some new stuff that we got from Home Depot. He afterward put up a storage unit we bought from Joann’s closing sale, and he also installed some shelving in my main studio space.

I’m happy with the progress! Tomorrow he is going to hang a curtain rod along a wall in the storage area so I can get my photo booth set up again.

Here’s a photo of the shelving he put up in the craft room. It’s above the cabinet we use for gift wrapping presents. The top hinges up and holds the tubes of paper, and the drawers has gift bags, boxes, tissue paper and ribbon.

IMG_7371.jpeg

I don’t have a good pic in the storage room but I will maybe take some more tomorrow!

To start, here are 3 pics of my cats I took today. It makes me sad that I only have four cats left - my poor babies. I was missing my Poppy girl bad today and was kind of in a funk about it. Anyway, here is Lenny:

IMG_7541.jpeg

And then Harry & Albus:

IMG_7542.jpeg

And ColePorter, hoping that I will share my leftovers from Mission BBQ at lunch (I did not):
IMG_7547.jpeg

I met with the bride and her mother and they paid me in full for me to do her wedding flowers. I finished the flower girl’s circlets yesterday and today I decorated their baskets, which were donated by the mother of the bride, and the seashells were meaningful to her:

IMG_7539.jpeg

I also completed 6 boutonnières:

IMG_7523.jpeg

Tomorrow I plan to do the 2 corsages on my list and that will be it for the week on the wedding flowers. Next week I will do the 3 bridesmaid bouquets.

I did get another fabulosity crown completed today though I didn’t get a photo of it done. Here are some parts of it:

IMG_7548.jpeg

I have a lot of autumn stems and leaves as well, so I will probably do another similar one tomorrow morning. I didn’t get a photo because until later this evening, my Photo Booth was still not set up. MisterMoonbeam did finally hang the curtain rod after dinner so tomorrow I will get the fabric up and ironed. Then I can start documenting my items again. I used paper towels as a backdrop for the flower girl’s baskets. 😂 Yeah, those aren’t going in the portfolio like that. 😂

Yesterday I realized that I have lost 16 pounds since the end of January. I had bought this dress in a size medium and it wouldn’t close over my boobs. Well, now it does.

IMG_7504.jpeg

Today I was bumming it in my ex-bestie’s late-fiancé’s shorts. 🤦🏼‍♀️ They’re literally like the only pair of shorts I own I think. They’re a men’s XL and way too big, but I had plans to sand and stain the walking sticks I’m making and I wasn’t worried about these getting gross. Well, I ended up not being able to do that so hopefully that will be on the agenda for tomorrow. But anyway, BugGirl came over to do some cleaning tonight and she told me that she owns the exact same tshirt and that I look like I have a butt now. 😆

IMG_7560.jpeg

As you can see, my game room is full of garb and nonsense from my garb room! I emptied out the closet in there with help from BugGirl, in anticipation of TheEngineer coming over tomorrow to demo it and install a new structure to hold all the men’s garb that is owned in this household. Hopefully that will go off very easily and he will get the project completed so I can get this room looking normal again!

I have 7 Sgt Pepper vests I am selling at the garb sale. SEVEN. Most are new and never worn. They’re a size large and that is not me right now. Sigh. It sucks because I want to wear them!
IMG_7550.jpeg

TheEngineer came over on Thursday and he demoed the garb room closet and now it has a nice organizational hanging system for DarkKnight & MisterMoonbeam.

IMG_7655.jpeg

I didn’t have time to paint in there but it’s still much improved! I’m very grateful that he was able to do this for us! I ordered a new rug for the room which should have arrived today.

I was at the Virginia Ren Faire today so IDK. It was supposed to rain but it was instead muggy and hot. MisterMoonbeam and I lasted until 1:30 pm and then headed out. We were able to meet up with our Couchsurfing host family from last month and two of them were wearing my headbands!

I was a chicken lady.

IMG_7741.jpeg

I don’t even have an opinion on chickens, honestly. 😂

IMG_7724.jpeg
IMG_7755.jpeg

Before we left I put together 10 of my smallest flower crowns - bud crowns. I also glued up a bunch of my 3D printed fire pieces so I can make some Phoenix headbands next week. I also need to focus on getting my tentacle headbands glued up, and creating everything I can for my Pride show on the 21st.

IMG_7615.jpeg

Today BugGirl game over and did some deep cleaning for me for 5 hours! She cleaned the basement bathroom, my master bedroom and then set up the rug in my garb room. The thing that took her the most time I think was the entryway - I bought new rugs there and she sat and scraped off all of the old rug tape from the floor and then had to wash the tiles. It all looks great!

I experimented with some different glue techniques with my tentacle headbands, but everything I tried failed. So it was a learning experience. I’d rather have product ready to sell so it kinda sucks. I had an idea at the end of my patience and we will see how things go with that tomorrow.

I did finish the mothers’ corsages for the wedding I am supplying, and I completed 1 of 3 bridesmaid bouquets.

IMG_7855.jpeg
IMG_7823.jpeg

I have a list for tomorrow that doesn’t involve flowers and that fact is stressing me TF out. The car is overdue for an oil change and I have to drop off my latest Stitch Fix returns at the post office. I also need to go to Hobby Lobby to snag some aqua flowers for the actual bridal bouquet - I forgot to do that last week!

I did make 13 or so flower crown bases but I ran out of grapevine, so I have to pick some up tomorrow as well. I am hoping to have time to finish another bridesmaid bouquet then, and to hopefully glue up 5 or so tentacle headbands, if my new technique works. I HAVE to create a fabulosity.

I’m super anxious and I don’t have a lot of time to create before my next event, which is my city’s Pride. I don’t think it will be a big selling opportunity, but I hope to make at least $500. The booth fee was $50 so that would be a solid success. I don’t have that much product made at the moment. 🙃 I need to stay home and focus but that will not be me the next two days. 😬😬😬
