Introducing myself :)

Hi Everyone,

My name is Chiara Bassan and I am a student at the University of Amsterdam, where I am attending a Master's program in Cultural and Social Anthropology. :)

I am myself involved in polyamorous relationships. (I met a metamour for the first time yesterday!!) I would like to focus on this topic for my research.

My main research questions are: "How do polycules reclaim desire and forge identities within the axes of multiple systems of exclusion?”; “How do polycules transform love narratives from ones of scarcity to ones of abundance in their daily practices?”; “How do polycules navigate care and intimacy in a reality in which they have no designated place?”

For my Master's I am required to conduct a brief 10-question interview with someone I consider relevant to the topic of my research. I was wondering if someone on this virtual space would be down and happy to answer some of my questions. :) It would be just a brief call. Feel free to reach out if this is your case!

My e-mail: [email protected]

With a lot of polylove,
Chiara

Greetings Chiara Bassan,
Welcome to our forum. Please feel free to lurk, browse, etc.

It sounds like you've got some really good research questions, I hope you will do well on your journey towards your Master's degree. I especially like your question of, "How do polycules transform love narratives from ones of scarcity to ones of abundance in their daily practices?" I wouldn't want to reveal my email address, but I hope others will, and that you will get someone for your interview.

Sincerely,
Kevin T., "official greeter" :)

Hi Chiara,

These sound like interesting research questions. I think the first question confused me a bit, though. Reclaiming desire suggests that desire had at one point been lost or been taken from the polycule. “Multiple systems of exclusion” also seemed like one that may be in language familiar to researchers but not necessarily familiar to the population? At any rate, I feel like I would have a hard time speaking about the first one. I wish you the best of luck, though. Are you allowed to share/publish results when you are finished?

Hi,
thank you so much for your feedback :) These are very helpful insights. I believe you are right, the first question does sound a bit too "academic" but the environment in which I will present my research question and results is academic indeed. The questions I posted here are more thought to direct me in my theoretical stream of thought, they will not be asked directly to the poeple I will engage with during my research!
As for sharing the results, feel free to send me an email in June and I will send the thesis to you, looking for more and more feedback :)
Thank you again,
Chiara

Hi,
thank you for such a warm welcoming and for the tips! I will definetely make good use of them :)
Have a nice day!
Chiara

Heya Chiara, welcome.

Could you please explain "reclaim desire"? Sincerely curious.

Also, are you able to share - at this stage of your research - what your axes are? And how many are you using for your modelling? Two, three?
