New: looking for advice on parties

rather that the PDA is being put out there in hopes of provoking envy, consciously or unconsciously.

This is so self-centered, I can't even get my head around it.

You're not actually that important.

When I'm with my loved ones, I'm barely aware that there are other people around, let alone behaving solely for their benefit.

But hey, if your self-esteem needs you to believe you're the centre of everyone's universe, far be it for me to burst your bubble.

Please reread:

There is no NEED whatsoever to show "affection" or "intimacy" in a public setting except
  • as an expression of insecurity, AND/OR
  • as an indication of ownership.
To say otherwise is mere Romantic claptrap, importing the "togetherness" nonsense from Monogamism.

That's pretty much bulls***, RC. I express affection because I am an affectionate person, and because I like touching people - it has nothing to do with who may or may not see it. Hell, I'd touch platonic friends more if it was socially acceptable. The idea that we should all be islands floating in a sea of air, not contacting people where anyone else could see us is one of the main reasons for touch starvation in the modern world.

No, THAT is bullshit. You are intentionally misinterpreting what I am clearly saying -- describing the two-person come-along death-grip -- in order to paint me as being somehow against ALL public displays of affection, & then claiming the right to be personally affronted. You ought rightly to be upset at the fool who is making THAT claim -- which would be you.

If it walks like a duck & smells like a duck...

Maybe you should express yourself better then. I only see people taking it the same way.

You made a pretty flat statement. You said there are only two reasons to show PDA. How did you expect people to take that?

Wow, this escalated quickly. *popcorn*
