So, Jess and I have started watching “This is Poly” because she just loves trashy reality TV. And this one doesn’t disappoint.
But it will disappoint you if you’re looking for poly representation. Because of course it’s disappointing. What else could it have been…
One is a triad with the OC with religious upbringings and families. They’re also a holdover from Love After Lockup, with their third being the one who got out of jail. They have pineapples all over the house, making it obvious they are actually swingers who just tweaked the truth to get on TV.
Another is clearly a small time rapper’s groupie harem with OPP, but with sex cult vibes and pseudo-spiritual and artistic affectations.
Another is a serial cheater and his partner who are pulling out every Jersey Shore stereotype and not actually a polycule.
The last polycule revealed so far is a pair of women, one still married to her husband who glosses over that so casually. And they aspire to collect as many women as possible, you’d think they were going to be the circus cult from Octopussy.
There’s still another couple to be revealed, but I think they might just turn out to be more down to earth and less drama prone. I hope so at least.
